Splash Into Reading at Summerville Reading Camp

In July of 2011 we hosted a week-long reading camp. Camp operated each day from 8 am—4:30 pm. The camp is for rising third and fourth graders from the Summerville area. Each day students are fed breakfast, lunch and snacks.Students participated in three hours of academic reading centers in the morning, followed by exciting afternoon activities including an off campus field trip. The camp is free of charge and selection is based on parent, teacher and principal recommendations.

We are very excited about offering reading camp next year to children from the Summerville area, both on our St. Paul's campus and perhpas at two additional locations.Twenty-four children had the opportunity to attend camp this year and we hope, in the future, the camp will grow. The goal of this program is for children to have positive experiences with literature and to learn valuable reading skills while having fun and making new friends in a camp atmosphere.
